Job Description

Position Overview
We’re looking for an experienced and certified Quality/Safety Manager to join our team. This role has overall responsibility for food packaging quality and plant safety programs, including maintaining certifications, leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing department personnel and budgets, and ensuring compliance with SQF, HACCP, and other regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, an effective communicator, and passionate about driving quality and safety excellence across all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the site quality and safety champion, driving improvements in metrics and KPIs to maintain SQF Level 2 HACCP certification and reduce defective materials, scrap, and failed inspections.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain sustainable food packaging safety and quality processes, procedures, and programs.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance with food packaging safety and quality standards, including successful completion of third-party audits.

  • Conduct internal safety and quality audits (GFSI-SQF Monthly Internal Audits, Customer Audits) and develop timely, actionable countermeasures to findings.

  • Complete monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections as required by the SQF system.

  • Collaborate with teams to develop and implement Food Safety Fundamentals and the Food Safety Plan.

  • Partner with the HACCP team to ensure regulatory and audit requirements for risk identification and mitigation are met;oversee HACCP compliance within the manufacturing site.

  • Provide SQF, food safety, and quality training to employees, including department-specific training and onboarding for new hires.

  • Lead the Continuous Improvement team and the Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with all SQF procedures, GMP requirements, and customer specifications.

  • Perform root cause analyses and issue corrective actions.

  • Handle roll damage and supplier claims related to defective material.

  • Develop and maintain procedures for the control of food safety and quality risks in compliance with regulatory and market requirements.

  • Identify and assess potential hazards and quality defects across the packaging supply chain (biological, chemical—including allergens—and physical hazards).

  • Ensure positive customer interactions, adherence to specifications, 5S practices, and facility policies/procedures.

  • Record findings and relay information to the production team, brainstorming ideas to increase productivity and performance while maintaining quality standards.

  • Act as a Building Safety Monitor for alarm listings, answering calls, and reporting to the GM in a timely manner.

  • Embrace EOS principles and collaborate as a team to meet operational goals.

  • Perform other duties as designated in coordination with customer and facility requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Certified SQF Practitioner with HACCP.

  • Minimum of 3 years’experience in the manufacturing process of food-safe packaging, preferably in an SQF certified environment.

  • Experience with SFI, FSC, and PEFC certified packaging materials is a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change.

  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.

  • Effective time management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to positively influence others and synchronize cross-functional teams.

  • Team player with the ability to work self-directed and motivated.

  • Able to meet physical requirements of a manufacturing plant floor (standing/walking continuously;lifting under 50 lbs. As needed).
